How to Get More Google Reviews in Memphis the Right Way (Without Breaking Google's Rules)
Quick take: ask every customer the same way, offer no rewards, and reply to every review politely.
When someone in Memphis searches "barber near me" or "plumber Bartlett," your Google reviews are often the first thing they see. More honest reviews help. But there are rules, and breaking them can get reviews removed.
Google’s rules, in plain English
- Ask everyone, not just happy customers. Google doesn’t allow asking only the people you think will leave five stars.
- No rewards. No discounts, freebies, or payment for reviews.
- No pressure. Don’t stand over someone while they write one at the counter.
- Don’t tell people what to write. Just ask for an honest review.
Make your review link and QR code
In your Google Business Profile, you can get a short link that opens your review form. Turn it into a QR code and put it:
- by the register
- on receipts or invoices
- in a thank-you text after the job (only to customers who agreed to get texts; honor STOP)
Ask every customer, the same way
Pick one simple line and use it every time.
EXAMPLE wording: "Thanks for coming in today! If you have a minute, an honest Google review really helps a small shop like ours: [link]"
Same words for everyone keeps it fair and keeps you within Google’s rules. If you send it by text, send it only to customers who agreed to get texts, and honor STOP.
Replying to reviews, including bad ones
Keep it short, polite, and personal. Thank people. For a bad review, don’t argue and don’t share private details. Offer to make it right offline.
Use free AI for a first draft
You can paste a review into ChatGPT and ask for a short, friendly reply. Then edit it yourself before posting. You know the customer; the AI doesn’t.
